These compounds can cause death in humans if consumed exceeds the limits of the maximum levels permitted by BPOM in just 15 minutes," said one member of the research team Luluil Maknun in Malang, Monday, October 5, 2015.

Cyanide found in many foods, especially tubers, such as cassava, bamboo shoots, yam, and surly and analysis of cyanide in Indonesia has been using spectrophotometry, titrimetry, and argentometry which still includes tools imported from other countries.

Analysis using these tools are still fairly expensive, and it takes a long and complicated analysis because it takes special skills and hard to apply in the field.

However, with the guidance of Dr. Hermin Sulistyarti, four students were trying to overcome the dependence on imported tools and rapid analysis of cyanide by means of an alternative form of Cyanide Test Kit.

The intensity of the red color formed then matched with the color comparator to indicate the concentration of cyanide in the sample.

Cyanide Test Kit student creations are sold at Rp 20 thousand to 60 times the analysis, at a price of Rp350 per analysis. The sensitivity of this instrument is quite high because it can detect levels of cyanide that is 0.04 ppm.

Within about 5 minutes, this tool is able to detect the presence of cyanide in the test sample. This tool can help rapid analysis in the field with the required sample mass of approximately 0.1 grams.

Cyanide is one of the most toxic poisons and quick reaction to the bodies of animals and humans. With a fairly small doses (0.5 to 2.5 mg.kg-1), cyanide can turn off almost all species of animals within a few minutes after taking it.

In humans, oral dose of cyanide can be deadly is 0.5 to 3.5 mg.kg-1 body weight (Food Standards Australia, 2008). Cyanide in low doses found in food products and other products such as in cigarettes, motor vehicle fumes and industrial waste.
